The work I have submitted on this blog is from the two recent projects I have been working on in my BTEC fashion course at college. I have tried to show a variety of skills including collection of research material, primary drawings, fashion illustrations, design ideas and my ability to use Photoshop. I chose these pieces to show how I develop my ideas through the design process. The first 5 pieces are from a project based on art in Liverpool looking particularly at the Biennial. I developed certain aspects from what a saw such as owl heads and cartoon shapes and used the experience to design a textile surface pattern for a dress. The rest of the pieces look closer at things that are often overlooked. After researching the theme I focused on fruit, shoes and makeup to develop the design ideas for an outfit. The finished idea is a pair of trousers inspired by an open pepper and a printed shirt by drips from a spilling bottle of nail polish. This is just a portion of my recent work I believe I am particularly good at pattern cutting and construction and I am currently working on Illustrator and developing my photography skills.
The work I have included shows my style which is a mix of fresh, simple drawings and colourful, eclectic layouts. My personal style is similar to this and I would describe myself as a feminine tomboy. I design for myself and my peers. I have a creative mind and have always loved drawing and making things. If you mix this with strong ideas on what I have always wanted to wear you can understand where my interest in the fashion started. I like to keep up with blogs such a Suzzie Bubble, Jak & Jill and Another Magazines blog. I have recently started my own blog that focuses on new collections I like and interesting photos that inspire me whether of beautifully dressed women or a vintage Vesper scooter.
This course appeals to me as it encourages creativity and individual expression. It would allow me to try a range of different specialities and find my strength in order to discover my place in the fashion industry. My goal for the next few years is to show in Graduate Fashion Week so that I can present my work to the industry. I will work hard to achieve a design career and inevitable I would love my own label.
